The Shire We set out to save the Shire, Sam. And it has been saved. But not for me. The Shire is an area settled exclusively by Hobbits and largely removed from the goings-on in the rest of the realm. They much prefer second breakfast, pipe weed, and fine ales!
Rivendell Sauron's forces are massing in the east, his eye is fixed on Rivendell. The hidden refuge of Elrond Halfelven, founded by Elrond in the Second Age against the assaults of Sauron in Eriador. It lay in a deep valley in the western foothills of the Misty Mountains, and endured, under the protection of Elrond's Ring Vilya.
Moria The doors of Durin, Lord of Moria. Speak friend and enter. What once used to be the Greatest of all Dwarf-Halls is now a tomb. The dwarves delved too deep in search of riches and released a Balrog. It is his domain now, along with the Goblins of the mountains.
Lothlorien You have entered the realm of the Lady of the Wood....You cannot go back. Elven realm west of Anduin, at the meeting of Celebrant and Anduin. Also called the Golden Wood, ruled by Lady Galadriel.
Fangorn Forest Come, my friends. The Ents are going to war. A last remnant of the great forests of Eriador, lying in the southern foothills of the Misty Mountains, in which the mighty Ents dwell.
Mirkwood There were no more deer; not even rabbits were to be seen. The mighty forest that lay in the lands east of the River Anduin. The name 'Mirkwood' was used of this forest after Sauron, in his guise as the Necromancer, took up his abode at Dol Guldur in its southern regions.
The Lonely Mountain, Dale, and Esgaroth. The Mountain and towns east of Mirkwood and west of the Iron Hills where dwarves resided in Thrain's halls. On the southern slopes is the wealthy human city of Dale, and in the middle of Long Lake lies Esgaroth.
Isengard The power of Isengard is at your command, Sauron, Lord of the Earth. Here lies the tower of Orthanc, a great fortress built by Gondor in the days of great power. It is now under the domain of the corrupted mind of Saruman.
Rohan Now is the hour! Riders of Rohan! Oaths you have taken, now fulfill them all. Kingdom of the Rohirrim home of the horse lords. At the heart of Rohan lies Edoras, city of the Meduseld, and home to King Theoden.
Gondor The White Tower of Ecthelion, glimmering like a spike of pearl and silver, its banners caught high in the morning breeze. One of the Dunedain kingdoms of Middle Earth. The great city of Minas Tirith lies here, home to many of the great kings and stewards of many Ages.
Umbar A fleet of Corsairs ships sails from the south. Umbar is a dark place. The dark port of the black ships. It was the corsairs that lurked here, descendants of the Haradrim of the South, who's only goal was to raid the coasts of Belfalas in Gondor.
Mordor Behind the walls of Mordor, our enemy is regrouping. At the top of the great fortress of Barad-dur, Saurons eye scours the barren landscape from the Black Gate to Mount Doom.
Grey Havens They're going to the harbor beyond the White Towers. To the Grey Havens. The great elven port city of Mithlond. Under the rule of Cirdan, another ring bearer. This is where many elves leave Middle-earth, never to return.
